The New Year brings resolutions to become physically fit, but the stars in 2016 are aligning to not only help us in our health routines, but to help us be more mentally and spiritually fit too. This year is bringing many new opportunities, especially in our careers, beliefs, and health. It’s going to be a very busy year with lots of activity and changeable landscapes. Workers could reap rewards and expansion in their careers or see a culmination of their life’s work. Jupiter, the planet of gifts and resources, as well as expansion, is in the sign of Virgo which rules our work, daily routines, and health. Jupiter is also lining up with the North Node, which rules our collective destiny, so we also will feel a great need to express our spiritual beliefs through our careers and to heal our planet. The questions of 2016 for everyone will be: “Am I actually working in alignment with my spiritual beliefs and making a stand for them through my job?” “Is there more I can do to make a difference in the world and for my fellow human beings?” and “Am I paying attention to my health and the environment and recognizing that a healthy mind and body support not only a better life for me, but for everyone?”.

Saturn is in Sagittarius all year and it’s expanding responsibility and/or focusing our work more globally. This year, social justice, racial, and environmental issues will once again come to the forefront, but more on a global level. We can no longer point fingers at other countries, races, or religions, but must work together to solve global problems. Answers will come from our strong beliefs and our own hard work. Not from a corporation or government, but from individual minds being sparked by Uranus in Aries still squaring Pluto in Capricorn. Uranus rules big change, technology, and inventiveness and in the sign of Aries now, it calls for the individual to make changes or to follow their passions, strike out in new directions, and present innovative ideas. The power structures of most institutions (Pluto in Capricorn) will continue to square Uranus in Aries, as it has for almost 4 years now, changing our social structures dramatically. Collectives of passionate individuals using technology to get their message out or to change society is the way of Uranus in Aries and the Aquarian Age and is something we are just starting to experience. Expect great innovations this year! Especially in the fields of artistic expression, oceanic issues, and medicine (Pisces).

Neptune is still in Pisces all of 2016, dissolving away old beliefs and patterns and bringing our spirituality to the forefront for examination. It will be in opposition to Jupiter in Virgo and squaring Saturn in Sagittarius from February until May, forcing us to ask “Do our current belief systems and blind faith still work for us?” Or do we need to take action ourselves and expand our career lives to bring about the ever increasingly needed changes? We can no longer sit back and trust that the powers that be (i.e. institutions and governments) will solve our problems for us.

Right now, the current Mercury Retrograde will still be in effect until the end of February in the sign of Capricorn, asking us to go back and look at issues around our careers and also perhaps looking at past issues or karmic issues that hold us back from expressing our full potential. We have four Mercury Retrogrades this year which is unusual. But these retrogrades are the times we need to review our past, reassess our direction, finish up old projects, and look at how we communicate with others. Use these retrogrades to your advantage.

The Chinese New Year of the Monkey starts February 8th and heralds a very movable and active year with some fun too. All the mutable sun signs, Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius, will feel the instability the most, but they are the types who go with the flow anyways, so they should not have too hard of a time. To navigate all the changing tides this year, remember that Saturn in Sagittarius reminds us to find mentors in churchmen, healers, spiritual advisers, and educators because it is through higher wisdom and spiritual connection that we will make the most progress and begin to build the new structures necessary to successfully navigate personal and world stage issues. Think globally with Jupiter in Virgo and find ways to look past race and religious boundaries. Dissolve old beliefs and addictive habits that hold you back from expressing your contributions to the world. We are in this together, so let’s make 2016 a year of discovery, innovation, and new ways of expressing our light and love globally!
