Do You Choose to Be Happy?
Each and every day you make hundreds of choices (decisions) and one of the most important choices that is often overlooked is the choice to be happy.
Happiness is a choice, just like your attitude is a choice.
You can choose to be happy at any time, but do you? I see so many people posting on social media about their desire to be happy and I guess they have no understanding that they have the opportunity to choose it.
It does not matter what your circumstances are – poor, wealthy, bad job, bad boss, tiny house, big house; you get the picture – you can choose to be happy. I’m sure you can give me tons of excuses or reasons why you think you can’t, but are they really valid reasons?
I have had my fair share on bad times, illness – once several years ago I got a strep infection in my eye and was blind in that eye for several months, the other eye was so stressed and sensitive that I couldn’t go outside because of the brightness; I couldn’t drive for 3 months, a huge challenge in my life – and grief, yet I know that each day as I wake up I can choose to be happy or not, even in difficult times.
The key element for me is to be present in the moment, not worry about yesterday, tomorrow, or even later in the day, just be right here right now! As you are getting present think of how many things in your life for which you can be grateful. When you pause to express or experience gratitude it is easier to shift into choosing to be happy. At least that is what works for me when I’m having a down day.
Another thing that might be helpful is to write on 3×5 cards or “sticky” notes something such as: “Today I choose to be happy” “Happiness is my choice today” “I am happy at any moment I choose”. Write phrases like this and put them everywhere – in your car, in your refrigerator, on the bathroom mirror, inside the medicine cabinet and anywhere else you can think of and you will begin to shift into happiness as long as you believe that it is possible.
Today I choose to be happy, join me and we can change the world, just for today.
