A Whole New World

Come to The Edge

At the edge of our comfort zone is a world we will never know unless we take that step beyond. Most often, fear, anxiety, and apprehension prevent us from a breathtaking adventure that can be ours to experience.

There are instances when our comfort zone provides joy and fulfillment. If that is the case, continue your journey with a passion for good and do good with a passion. Joy is defined as the passion or emotion excited by the acquisition of good.

When your comfort zone is a refuge of a routine lacking fulfillment, it is time to leap beyond. This simple children’s poem by Guillaume Apollinaire is a reminder of what lies ahead.

“Come to the edge,” he said.

“We can’t, we’re afraid!” they responded.

“Come to the edge,” he said.

“We can’t, we will fall!” they responded.

“Come to the edge,” he said.

And so they came.

And he pushed them.

And they flew.

Fear and anxiety can paralyze growth. Movement and action will overcome fear to create growth, confidence, and joy. The joy is in the courageous effort needed to take the step beyond.

Great leaders know we all have a difficult time pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zone. Normally we need a little extra incentive and sometimes a real push to leave. We may be afraid because of a past experience, or because an unknown territory makes us apprehensive.

A strong and trustworthy leader can take us into the unknown and get us through past failures. They must take us to the edge to take that leap beyond. At the edge of your comfort zone, a whole new world of opportunity awaits.

Leaders ensure team members get to the edge. Some get there with little help, while others require the leadership, guidance, and occasional push. That push is tangible: it is physical, mental, and emotional.

When you go to the edge and push beyond, you will find a world you never dreamed of!

May we all find the courage to take that step or find a leader or mentor who inspires us to achieve fulfillment!
