What would you think if I told you that you could improve your life and support better health by simply changing the color of your bedroom walls, moving the couch or cleaning out your garage? Sounds crazy huh? Not so bizarre though if you understand the principles of Feng Shui.

Feng what you say? Feng Shui (pronounced fung-shway) is an ancient Chinese practice of thoughtful placement with regard to living environment and furnishings. The history of feng shui is over 3500 years old and there are many layers of knowledge, but the basic principle is that ‘everything is energy’. It might help to know that when you implement proper feng shui in your home or business space, you are quite literally putting the ‘law of attraction’ in action. How? By purposefully arranging the stuff (which has energy) around you to gain positive results!

When you walk into the front door of your home do you feel inspired or tired? Do you wake up in the morning with a sense of purpose or are you stumbling over piles of clutter looking for your coffee cup? Do you avoid your messy garage and the avalanche of chaos in your closets? As a Certified Feng Shui Consultant, I would ask you these questions (and look in your closets!) to see how the energy of your space is supporting (or sabotaging) your health, career, prosperity, and relationships too!

I would also utilize one of the tools of Feng Shui known as the Bagua or Life Area Map to see where each life area is located as it relates to the layout of your floor plan. These areas correlate to certain colors, elements, and other feng shui ‘remedies’ or ‘cures’ to help bring balance to a space. Think of the Bagua as a large tic-tac-toe board that fits on top of the layout of your space, keeping in mind that not all spaces are a perfect square.

Can you tell by looking at the diagram below where the Health area is in your home?   If you’re standing at your front door – it should be ‘midway’ somewhere on the left side of your home. It could overlap with another room or it might be ‘missing’ altogether.

As an example, you might discover that your master bedroom is in the Relationship area; your Helpful People area may be in that cluttered garage (uh oh!) and your bathroom may be where your Health area is. If you find that your Prosperity area doesn’t layover a room in your house, you should give me a call ASAP!

If you discover your bathroom is in your health area – you likely have 3 or more plumbing drains here (sink, shower or bathtub, toilet). And each of those drains literally represent 3 ‘drains’ on your health. But don’t worry – you don’t need to move to a new house – but you do need to keep toilet seats down when not in use and see what elements, colors and other remedies are recommended to ‘cure’ the space.   Adding items in the color ‘green’ can help the Health area as well as adding things made of wood. Things like living plants, a green shower curtain or even re-painting the walls can all support a new ‘health frequency’ in your home.

You really don’t need to be a quantum physicist to understand that the ‘energy’ behind clutter and disorganization can create a sense of overwhelming and can prevent you from taking action on your intentions and goals. Bottom line….your home and everything in it (and around it) has a vibrational field of energy similar to a magnet. Just as a magnet is always attracting iron or steel – you and your environment are also always attracting energy to you – whether that is positive or negative. If anything is messy, stagnant or draining, it will absolutely show up in your daily life. And yes, that applies to the cat’s litter box that needs cleaning!

Three Things You Can Do Right Now to Improve the Flow of Energy (and support Good Health) in Your Home

1. Give the front door a good cleaning and assess the ‘curb appeal’ of your entryway. Remove any dead plants and place a circulating water feature near the front door to invite fresh chi.

2. Find your Health area and commit to improving this space by removing clutter, giving it a good cleaning, adding one or more living plants, and more of the color green here.

3. Find a picture of yourself when you were at your best and place this in this area.

When you are intentional about implementing correct feng shui energy flow in your home or business space – you will soon see evidence that moving your stuff really will help you change your life!
