Retrograde is In The Air… Astrology by Paula Sheldon
As we enter May 2016, we are experiencing quite a bit of slow down in energy with five, yes FIVE planets all going retrograde (Rx) at the same time. Mercury, Pluto and Mars turned retrograde last month, along with Jupiter and Saturn that had been retrograde already. Jupiter and Saturn will turn direct this month, leaving three planets still retrograde at the same time for most of the month. Whew!
Here is the schedule of retrograding planets so you can keep track of the movements:
Jupiter turned retrograde at 23 degrees Virgo on January 7, 2016. It turns direct at 13 degrees Virgo on May 9, 2016.
Saturn turned retrograde at 16 degrees of Sagittarius on March 25, 2016 and will go direct on August 13, 2016 at 9 degrees of Sagittarius.
Mars turned retrograde at 8 degrees Sagittarius on April 17, 2016. It will turn direct on June 29, 2016 at 23 degrees of Scorpio.
Mercury turned retrograde on April 28, 2016 at 23 degrees of Taurus and will turn direct on May 22, 2016 at 14 degrees of Taurus.
Pluto turned retrograde also at 17 degrees Capricorn on April 18, 2016. It will turn direct on September 26, 2016 at 14 degrees of Capricorn.
When planets go retrograde, it’s a time for slowing down to reflect on the past, To make plans for where you’d like to go. Mars retrograding requires us to do our research completely before investing time or money. In other words, slow down enough to think before we act. It is not a good time for new initiatives in whatever areas these planets represent or in the matters these planets rule by house in your birth chart. Unless it had already been in the works before that planet went retrograde. It’s a good time to consult your astrologer for the placement of these planets. To understand what they are trying to help you see, to release, or simply to understand the best timing for what you are trying to birth into being.
For those of you that are interested in how the retrogrades will affect relationships (romantic, business and family), keep in mind that anything you start during a retrograde may not last. Be mindful that any relationship that begins during a retrograde may not last long term, which may be fine if you wish to just have some fun in the moment, but if you want the relationship to become a long term one, delay consummation of it until early July if you can. Also, be understanding if your partner needs a little extra down time.
Those of you sensitive to collective energies or with Mars/Aries energy prominent around their ascendant, sun sign, moon sign, or sixth house of health, will need to make sure they shield themselves from harsh energies and get more rest during the next few months.
Also, when Mars is retrograde (and Pluto), the sexual components of relationships come up for review. Old lovers may show up and want a replay, so to speak. Especially because Mercury Rx also brings communications from people in our past. Pluto, the planet of karma, is turning retrograde too, so relationships formed during this month and next will involve karma or even past life relationships coming into play.
Mars is also the planet of aggression and assertiveness, even violence and war. So on the world stage, we may also see issues arising around these themes as tensions escalate.. Mars turning direction will intensify its’ energy. It is important to try not to start any conflicts or arguments or legal battles of your own during Mars retrograde because if you are the aggressor or initiator, you will most likely not win in the end.
With Saturn and Mercury both going retrograde this month, it’s not the best time to sign any contracts or take on a new job without fully investigating all aspects of this choice. We need to make sure all parties involved understand the agreements being made. Such contracts signed during a retrograde can often fall through later after the planets go direct. Or they may not seem as good an idea when the planet involved moves forward and this can cause regret.
Timing will be very important with all new initiatives in the next few months because of all of the unstable energy. This instability started last month mid-April and continues on during this month and into June. All activity may slow down with so many planets going retrograde, so use this time to rework or reorganize your business, your relationships, or even your environment. Relax, restore, reorganize, review, rework, restore, revisit; you get the idea!
Keep in mind that we cannot stop moving forward in life during retrograde periods, but it does require more effort and attention to detail when we do try to move forward. Especially with matters pertaining to the planets involved or the houses they are transiting through your birth chart. Taking your time, reviewing your past, paying attention to details, relaxing and moving through life carefully and deliberately will mitigate the effects of such unstable planetary energy. It can be an exciting time if you do your own inner work and use the retrograde energies to review your own course in life and make the changes necessary to move forward in a new direction.
