Staying Spiritually Fit with Healthy Thoughts

Because we are both human beings and Spiritual Beings, it makes sense that we spend some time and effort to keep ourselves as fit Spiritually as we do physically.   And the process is very much the same.

To remain physically fit we feed our bodies healthy, nutritious food. We exercise our physical muscles to remain limber and strong. And we balance our activities to provide for a full and happy life experience: work and play, rest and activity, quiet time and social time, etc.

To remain Spiritually Fit, we feed our mind with positive loving thoughts. We exercise our Spiritual muscles to remain centered and happy. And we seek Spiritual balance by practicing gratitude instead of complaint, kindness instead of criticism, and love instead hate, etc. Neither tending to our physical fitness, nor tending to our Spiritual Fitness is difficult, but both require us to consistently give them some dedicated time, effort and attention.

The most effective tool for maintaining strong and healthy Spiritual Fitness is the simple affirmation. Affirmations are positive statements that fill our minds and hearts with thoughts about the way we want to think and feel about ourselves and about our life experience in general. They are free, and available to anyone, anywhere, anytime – and they work amazingly well in a relatively short period of time.

Here’s a physical demonstration you can practice to see for yourself exactly how affirmations work to shift our thoughts and feelings from negative to positive. On a plain piece of white paper, in block letters about an inch high, write the letters B A D. Then directly across the letters B A D, write the letters G O O D. The letters G O O D won’t completely cover up the letters B A D but they will keep you from reading them clearly. Then, with the same pen or pencil you used to write the letters G O O D originally, begin tracing over them many, many times until the letters G O O D completely obliterate the letters B A D underneath them

Just the way tracing the letters of the positive word over and over again physically wiped out the negative word written below, Affirmations mentally cover up and obliterate from our consciousness those underlying negative thoughts and feelings that most of us harbor about ourselves without even realizing it. I’m talking about those debilitating thoughts and feelings like: I am too fat. I am too old. I am not good enough. I can’t afford it. I’m not well enough. I never went to college. I am not smart enough. I’m not talented. I’m not strong enough. I don’t have good people skills. I’m not good looking enough, etc.

The following six Spirit fed Affirmations describe you exactly as you knew yourself to be when you were born. You were Spiritually Fit then. You didn’t have any negative thoughts about yourself at all. You were fearless. Full of enough good to face any event that came along. To be Spiritually Fit again, you need to “remember” the way you felt about yourself then and restore those feelings now. These Affirmations will help you to do that.

To use these Affirmations most effectively, be certain to repeat them exactly as they are written, twelve times each day for at least twelve weeks. Read through the six Affirmations carefully. Then repeat one full set at a time frequently throughout the day. Twelve repetitions for each set is minimum. More is better. Because these are statements that are probably contrary to your present belief system, you will no doubt feel some resistance at first. Just plow through it. The more you practice, the sooner you will begin to replace your old, negative thoughts with the truth about you.

Once you have memorized them, it will help you to really think about exactly what they mean when you repeat them. As you begin to internalize the words and their meanings, you will observe your everyday life improving rapidly. You will think much more highly of yourself than you ever have before. You will problem-solve with much greater ease. And your entire life experience will take on a greater sense of peace and joy.

Here are your six Affirmations – your key to total Spiritual Fitness.

I AM GOD’S OWN PERFECT CREATION

THERE IS NO OTHER PERSON ON THIS PLANET EXACTLY LIKE ME

I AM INTIMATELY CONNECTED TO ALL OF THE POWER OF THE UNIVERSE

GOD LOVES ME ALL THE TIME

I AM WHO I AM AND I ALLOW OTHERS TO BE WHO THEY ARE

I AM A LIMITLESS BEING.
